QR Scanning
QR codes are the bridge between the digital experience and your physical establishment. Members can scan QR codes with their phone to check in, earn points, redeem coupons, and access campaigns.
Types of QR Codes in IncentIA
Check-in QR
Allows members to register their visit to your store and earn points for it.
How it works for the member:
- The member opens the member portal on their phone
- They tap the Scan QR button or use their phone's camera
- They scan the QR code placed at your establishment
- The app confirms the check-in with a message: "Check-in registered! You earned X points"
- The points are automatically added to their balance
To set up the check-in QR:
- Go to Programs > Earning Rules
- Make sure you have an active Check-in type rule
- Go to Settings > QR Codes > Generate Check-in QR
- Download and print the QR to place in your store
Place the QR in a visible and accessible location: next to the register, on tables, in the storefront, or at the entrance. Add text like "Scan and earn points!" to motivate customers.
Coupon QR
When a member wants to redeem a coupon at your physical store, they show a QR from their portal.
How it works for the member:
- The member goes to the Coupons section in their portal
- They select the coupon they want to use
- They tap Use Coupon and a QR is generated on their screen
- They show the QR to the store employee
How it works for the employee:
- The employee accesses the admin panel or the scanning app
- They scan the member's QR
- The system validates the coupon and confirms the discount
- The coupon is marked as used
Campaign QR
A QR that takes users directly to a specific campaign (game, landing page, etc.).
To set it up:
- Go to Campaigns > select your campaign
- In the Share section, download the campaign QR
- Print it on your materials: signage, receipts, packaging, social media
Registration QR
A QR that leads to the loyalty program registration page.
- Go to Programs > Member Portal
- Download the registration QR
- Place it where your target audience can see it
Earning Points with QR
In addition to check-ins, there are other situations where QR scanning awards points:
- Product QR: place a QR on your products so customers can scan and earn extra points
- Event QR: at special events, generate temporary QR codes to reward attendees
- Packaging QR: include a QR in the wrapping to incentivize registration or participation
Security and Validation
The QR system includes security measures to prevent abuse:
- Check-in limit: you can set a maximum number of check-ins per day or per week to prevent repeated scanning
- Geolocation (optional): the check-in is only validated if the member is near your store location
- Rotating codes: coupon QR codes change periodically to prevent screenshots
- Single use: coupon QR codes can only be used once
If you detect unusual usage (many check-ins from the same person in a short time), review the limits set in the earning rules.
Best Practices
- QR size: make sure the QR is large enough to scan easily (minimum 3x3 cm)
- Contrast: use a dark QR on a light background to ensure readability
- Clear instructions: accompany the QR with text explaining what to do ("Scan to earn points", "Show this QR at the register")
- Test before printing: scan the QR from several devices to make sure it works correctly
